How to avoid dry skin this winter

As the colder months roll in, many of us notice our skin becoming drier and more sensitive. But don't worry, we're here to help keep your skin feeling hydrated and healthy! Here are some of our top tips to protect your skin from the colder weather.

1. Ditch makeup wipes and sulphate based cleansers

Makeup wipes are very harsh on your skin, while cleansers with sulphates can be very drying and strip your skin of its natural oils. Instead, opt for a hydrating oil-based cleanser to remove makeup like our Beachy Clean Melting Cleanser, which removes makeup and impurities without leaving your skin feeling dry or tight.

2. Don't overwhelm your skin with too many harsh actives

Overusing exfoliants or retinols can disrupt your skin barrier, especially during the winter when your skin is more vulnerable. Keep it simple and don’t overwhelm your skin with too many harsh actives. Instead, focus on products that support your skin’s natural barrier function.

3. Prioritise hydration

A good winter skincare routine is all about prioritising hydration. Incorporate products with humectants such as sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin. Humectants are ingredients which attract water to the skin and keep your skin feeling plump and hydrated throughout the day. Try our serum and day cream combo for a hydration boost.

4. Treat yourself to a hydrating mask

A weekly hydrating face mask can be your skin’s best friend during winter. Look for masks rich in moisturising ingredients to give your skin an extra boost when it needs it most. Just avoid single use sheet masks as these are no good for the planet!

5. Avoid hot water

While a hot shower may feel amazing on a cold day, hot water can strip your skin of essential oils and cause dryness. Stick to lukewarm or tepid water when showering or washing your face to prevent your skin from drying out.

6. Use emollients and occlusives

To protect your skin barrier, use products that contain emollients (which soften and smooth the skin) and occlusives (which lock in moisture). Emollients like almond and avocado oil, found in our Sleepy Beach Night Cream, help repair and nourish your skin overnight, while occlusives ensure long-lasting hydration.

7. Don’t forget your lips and hands

Your lips and hands are often the first to show signs of winter dryness. Use a hydrating lip balm and a rich hand cream throughout the day to keep these areas soft and moisturised.

By making a few changes to your routine and using the right products, you can help your skin stay nourished and glowing all season long. Explore our hydrating skincare range to find the perfect products to keep dry skin at bay this winter.
